Water Valley: Casey Jones & Railroad History

Casey Jones Railroad Blues Mural

Check out Water Valley's latest mural by local artist Bill Warren! Located right inside the alley across from The Depot on Main Street.

Thanks to Oxford Wal-Mart and Batesville Wal-Mart for choosing WVMSA as a recipient of your 2022 Community Grants to make this project possible.

What we're doing: The Depot Project

In March 2022, WVMSA received a $7,500 grant from the Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area Alliance to do work at the Depot on Main Street, aka the Water Valley Casey Jones Railroad Museum.  We have partnered with the keepers of the Museum to revitalize the depot from the inside out, preserve our railroad history, and create an interactive museum experience. The Depot project is underway, and we are currently raising funds to match the grant.  If you'd like to donate to this cause, click the link below.

What we're doing: Revitalization Grant

In 2022, Mississippi Main Street Association received legislative funding that allowed them to distribute $100,000 Revitalization Grants to accredited Main Street communities.  WVMSA is utilizing the grant for a downtown streetscape project.  The project will include crosswalks, bump outs, street signage, and wayfinding signage.  Plans are in progress, and we look forward to completing the project by end of 2024!

Eat Local Mural

In 2022, local artist Hannah McCormick completed an "Eat Local" mural funded by a Mississippi Main Street Community Development Grant.  The mural is located above the Main Street Association building and is visible driving north from South Main Street.
